While many ideas are rattling around in my head, I have been busy homemaking, homeschooling, and simply loving on my husband and boys. Life truly is peaceful! A Reward, Not a Burden
Behold, children are a gift of the LORD,
The fruit of the womb is a reward.
Like arrows in the hand of a warrior,
So are the children of one's youth.
Psalm 127: 3-5
Wow! Our children are a reward from God. A reward! And yet, so often we feel troubled by them or think of them as a burden. I know that is how I have felt, and I repent that. I know that is how many moms feel.
In fact, at a recent bible study, the speaker said with a smile of her face, "I am at this stage in my life where all my kids are in school, and I get the good part of the day to myself."
Following that comment, there was roar of laughter.
Why do we laugh at this? If I had been sitting there a year ago, I would have probably joined in. But, now, I felt a sadness.
Granted, she was referring to time she could spend in the Bible, but seriously, why do we laugh at the joy we have in sending our kids off to school so that we get "me" time?
Is it because deep down we feel guilty or uncomfortable? Our children are a gift of the LORD. It should make us feel uncomfortable.
This weekend, as I was reading Feminine Appeal by Carolyn Mahaney, I came across this:
"What words or images come to your mind when you think about your children? Are you inclined like I was to think: work, responsibility, sacrifice, burden, more work?"
She continues:
"Our speech and actions are shaped by our thoughts. Therefore, we must make every effort to think Psalm 127 kinds of thoughts about our children. Thinking as them as a heritage, a reward, and a blessing will alter our attitude and provide fertile soil for our tender love to grow."
Now, I am not saying that the bible study speaker, in any way, does not think of her children as a reward or a blessing. But, we need to, as moms, watch what we say and encourage each other to think of our children as rewards and blessings from our LORD, not as burdens--ones that we are eager to send off in order to get "me" time.

Teach Me His Truths
Some days I have regrets, but I know that I must let go of those and not let them interfere with my mission. I know that I am exactly where I need to be right now--and yet I fall short of His glory each day. I know this because it is biblical and it is God's will (not just for me but for all wives and mothers).
I realize how far away from God's Word I was…I was living according to the world's path--the politically correct and socially accepted path--the one leading to much destruction. But, I was not on God's path.
When I am feeling regret, I can't help but wonder where all the Titus 2 women were when I was a young mother. While I did not officially accept Christ until nine years ago, I went to MOPS, and I did bible studies as a young mother. I attended church. But, even since then, where were and where are all the Titus 2 women?
Are the commands of Titus 2 so politically incorrect that no one, even in the church setting, dares speak about them or make them clear to young wives and moms?
We Need Discerning Women is a great post!

Tears Tonight
Tears tonight from our youngest…feeling super sad about selling our house. Today was the first day that it was on the market, so I can totally understand how Evan is feeling. In fact, I was feeling emotionally weak yesterday. This home has been wonderful, and it is all Evan has ever known. What Evan doesn't understand is that our family is our home--no matter where we are, as long as we are together, we are home. He will understand that one day, though. And, he will go through this whole process under our protection and comforted by our unending love and care. Just as our whole family is under our LORD's protection and comforted by His unending love and care.
I love those who love me; And those who diligently seek me will find me. Proverbs 8:17
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11
Today my husband also got an email confirming that he is still in the running for an assistant professor position at a Christian university. Walk in Wisdom
Yesterday at my bible study, the speaker focused our attention on wisdom and seeking that from His word. She referenced Proverbs 28:26 Trusting oneself is foolish, but those who walk in wisdom are safe.
As soon as she read the verse, I could not help but look at the application of this verse. My NLT study bible puts it this way:
"For many people, the rugged individualist is a hero. We admire the bold, self-directed men and women who know what they want and fight for it. They are self-reliant, neither giving nor asking advice. What a contrast to God's way. A person can't know the future or predict the consequences of his or her choices with certainty. And so the totally self-reliant person is doomed to failure. The wise person depends on God."
God is dependable, and He and keeps His promises.
Understand, therefore, that the LORD your God is indeed God. He is the faithful God who keeps his covenant for a thousand generations and constantly loves those who love him and obey his commands. Deuteronomy 7:9
And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19
During this journey, I have come to seek His word first and trust in Him. My husband and I are intentionally living according to His will, not the ways of the world or our own desires. It has been so liberating! Yes, liberating!
And, yet each day I fall short of His glory (Romans 3:23). Each day I have to remind myself of His power, provision, and presence.

Watch Over Their Hearts
I know I am overstating the obvious when I say that technology has had a profound effect on our lives and our children's academic learning. Certainly there are too many benefits to list here, and that is not the point of this post. What I am becoming more aware of are the negatives.
In my last year of teaching, I was surrounded by some of the most amazing kids. Unfortunately, a good number of these eleven and twelve year olds seemed more concerned with texting, Facebooking, and video games than with their school work and learning. This obsession seemed to perpetuate a craziness of gossip, lack of sleep, and more missing or poor quality assignments than I had seen in my 13 years of teaching. And these kids came from good families.
I can't help but wonder if we, as parents, are too busy, too tired, too sucked in ourselves, or too blinded to tackle this issue head on.
It seems that we are in an age where spending more time in front of a screen than interacting with people or reading the Bible is the overwhelming norm. I can't help but wonder if this is contributing to the fact that we are getting further and further away from living according to God's will and more and more comfortable with the ways of this world.
If we adults are struggling with this problem, what is going on with our children?
Last night, at church, a fellow homeschooling mom shared that all her sister wants to do is play video games all day. Her sister is at the end of her high school career, but she does not seem interested in completing it.
Why is this? Why is the distraction of video games more alluring than all other things?
In the last few weeks, my eleven and eight year old have started playing Mindcraft, and they love it. But I am seeing some very scary things surface. They seem addicted to it…like they (((have to))) play it or check on their building so it doesn't get deleted.
Are we addicted? Are our children addicted?
A couple weekends ago, I observed my friend's 7th grade daughter interact with her phone. She could not seem to help but check it every minute. She seemed more consumed with interacting with her phone than the people around her. It was as if she was getting a fix from checking her phone. Now, this is a girl who comes from a very loving family.
Are we addicted to our technology to the point where it is distracting us from the most important things in our lives? God, our husbands, our children, our higher calling?
Are our children more consumed with interacting with their phones, video games, or iPods than interacting with their family, reading His word, playing outdoors using only their imagination?
Is our "family time" time when we are all sitting in the same room but each person is plugged into their device, therefore ignoring our family?
Are we raising children who will value screen time more than time with their spouse and children, or have lack the motivation to work?
Are we raising boys who will value technology more than time and intimacy with their wife or children? Are we raising daughters who will get their satisfaction from technology rather than time with God, their husband, or their children?
I can't help but wonder…
We are taught in Proverbs 22:6 to Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it. As parents we have an important job.
In fact Deuteronomy helps us to relate the Word to our daily lives. Verses 4-9 are very clear in our responsibility as parents.
Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. Love the LORD your God with all you heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the door frames of your houses and on your gates.
Are we able to accomplish this teaching and training when we are so distracted by technology ourselves? Are our children receiving the teaching and training from us, parents, if they are too busy or distracted by their gadgets?
So many questions…but so important to think about as parents.
Here are some simple things we have done to show and tell our kids that we value personal interaction and are committed to guarding their hearts:

- No video or iPod games during the week (at all)
- Only one hour of video and iPod games each day on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
- No use of phones or iPods in the car (at all) unless we are on a road trip (and even then only for limited time)

Feminine Appeal--Feeling blessed by this book!
I just finished reading the first chapter of Feminine Appeal by Carolyn Mahaney. Wow! I am looking forward to this journey through the seven virtues of a godly wife and mother in Titus 2.
In the foreword Nancy Leigh DeMoss shares:
"Christian women--no less than nonbelieving women--are in desperate need of the truth. The look of frustration, pain, or hollowness in so many eyes tells the story of women who are generally disappointed with life. They feel victimized--even traumatized--by circumstances that have fallen short of their hopes and dreams. As far as they are concerned, life just isn't working.
And the problem goes even deeper than what is obvious at first glance. I believe this sense of confusion and distress among Christian women is because, by and large, we are profoundly disoriented about who God is and who we are, and about our calling and mission in life--as women. Almost en masse we have bought into a way of thinking about life and about womanhood, marriage, and family that is culturally accepted and politically correct but fundamentally flawed. For sure, it has not delivered what it promised."
The author, Carolyn Mahaney, shares in the first chapter:
"Isn't it telling that our culture requires training and certification for so many vocations of lesser importance, but hands us marriage and motherhood without instruction? Fortunately, God hasn't left us to fend for ourselves. He has provided invaluable wisdom for women in His Word.
If we question whether we are investing our lives in what is truly important, we have received the plumb line for women straight from holy Scripture. Look at the clear instructions found in the second chapter of Titus, verses 3 to 5:"
Older women likewise are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers or slaves to much wine. They are to teach what is good, and so train the young women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled.
Today I am incredibly thankful to be growing in Christ and learning to be the wife and mother God intended me to be. I continue to pray that our journey is a testimony that blesses and inspires you and yours.

He Has Brought Me to My Knees
Wow, again, another post Kendal wrote hit home for me! I have certainly experienced such comments in the past month.
I am ashamed to say that I once felt the way I did--I could never imagine spending 24/7 with my children. Now, I want nothing more. I am so grateful to have Evan and William by my side as we go through our week (and Collier next year). We learn together (I swear homeschooling moms have got to be the smartest people in the world), and they help me as we do chores, cook, and run errands. They are learning amazing life skills along with information and academic knowledge. They are growing in Christ! They are interacting with some of the most down-to-earth and beautiful children and young adults I have ever met. And, we are all happy!
I am in awe of what God has opened my eyes to. And, I repent the feelings I once had as a mom--our LORD has truly brought me to me knees! I have so much regret, and I need to let that go!

To Halloween or Not To Halloween? That Is The Question!
How do you feel when a godly friend tries to hold you accountable to His word? Uncomfortable? Thankful? Angry?
Well, last week I started thinking about Halloween and Santa Claus… You see, our whole perspective on life has changed. Our goal is to align ourselves with His commands and will for our life. We are looking to His word for our daily guidance and following His lead. The changes we have already made have been huge, and they have changed our family--I have never been happier or felt more at peace in my life. I guess that is what comes when we let go and let God.
So, as I was looking for godly advice, I realized that people have pretty strong opinions about Halloween and Santa Claus (not to mention the Easter Bunny), and it is certainly easy to find people to support you in your current opinion. I was not looking for support. I was looking for truth…
How does Halloween fit with our faith and His word? Does it glorify Him?
And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ--to the glory and praise of God. Philippians 1:9-11
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. 1 Corinthians 10:31
My gut was now certainly telling me something I have never felt before! No, this holiday, that I have loved all my life (and is my birthday), was certainly not a way for our family to glorify God. Oh, boy…
How would my husband feel about this? We are changing so many things already…how would our children feel? Isn't it amazing how guilty we feel as parents! Unfortunately that guilt can cause us to not use our best judgment but rather follow the ways of the world. Oh, boy…
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:2
So, yesterday, one of my dear friends brought up Halloween and Christmas by asking what our plans were now that things were black and white for us--either God's will or the ways of the world.
While she had brought this up long ago, it was at a time when our life was far from being aligned with God's will. Something as "small" as Halloween simply didn't seem to matter--in fact, it didn't make sense.
Now it matters… But, I was just not ready to deal with one more change this month. (Can I list the changes we have already made??? No, that will be a post for another time.) I needed time, so I became irritated with her persistence! Like I am not doing enough already…argh! Give me a break already!!
But, I am thankful! I am thankful that she cares. She cares enough to hold me accountable to His word. That is the kind of influence and friendship I need. Thank you, Pamela!!
So, last night Ed and I talked about it. What a wonderful conversation we had!
This morning I emailed him this:
Thanks for the chat last night!! I was looking up some Halloween info and came across one. Read this blog post about Halloween--the comments, too, esp. the last one. Hmmm… A lot to think about. But, I want to make sure we talk about this soon with the kids--after you make a decision. I love you!
And, this was his response:
I think the second to the last comment is more clear than the last (perhaps one has been added since you looked at it). They make a good point about "what are we celebrating, and why are we celebrating it?"
Life is good and it is changing, but every change is good! It is good because we are placing our LORD at the center of every decision we make.
For this family, the answer to the question is obvious. But, we certainly respect those who arrive at a different answer.

How would my husband feel about this? We are changing so many things already…how would our children feel? Isn't it amazing how guilty we feel as parents! Unfortunately that guilt can cause us to not use our best judgment but rather follow the ways of the world. Oh, boy…

So, yesterday, one of my dear friends brought up Halloween and Christmas by asking what our plans were now that things were black and white for us--either God's will or the ways of the world.
While she had brought this up long ago, it was at a time when our life was far from being aligned with God's will. Something as "small" as Halloween simply didn't seem to matter--in fact, it didn't make sense.
Now it matters… But, I was just not ready to deal with one more change this month. (Can I list the changes we have already made??? No, that will be a post for another time.) I needed time, so I became irritated with her persistence! Like I am not doing enough already…argh! Give me a break already!!
But, I am thankful! I am thankful that she cares. She cares enough to hold me accountable to His word. That is the kind of influence and friendship I need. Thank you, Pamela!!
So, last night Ed and I talked about it. What a wonderful conversation we had!
This morning I emailed him this:
Thanks for the chat last night!! I was looking up some Halloween info and came across one. Read this blog post about Halloween--the comments, too, esp. the last one. Hmmm… A lot to think about. But, I want to make sure we talk about this soon with the kids--after you make a decision. I love you!

Christmas, Easter, 4th of July, Thanksgiving, national Bacon day, etc.
Halloween, though...hmmm... goes back to pagan holidays celebrating the rising of spirits and while I do not necessarily object to little kids dressing up, they can do this any day. What I do object to is:
•the glorification of spirits to the point of near idolatry[sp].
•the common place celebration of evil influences.
•the societal glorification and acceptance of, getting away from religion, begging and pandering from house to house. Not to mention the continued acceptance of teenagers not even dressing up and just begging for candy, and the danger of walking around to strange houses.
I am on board nixing this tradition, as well as the Easter Bunny and, [gulp, I can't even believe I am saying this... talk about a change of heart] Santa. I guess the only jolly old fat man coming into the house to eat cookies will be me.
I love you.
Life is good and it is changing, but every change is good! It is good because we are placing our LORD at the center of every decision we make.
For this family, the answer to the question is obvious. But, we certainly respect those who arrive at a different answer.

Godly Influence
Influence.
According to Dictionary.com, it means: the capacity or power of persons or things to be a compelling force on or produce effects on the actions, behavior, opinions, etc., of others.
As parents, we can't help but be concerned by the influence of others on our children. Not only are our children exposed to influence, but so are we. Who is influencing your behavior, actions, and opinions?
God warns us of influence:
See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of the world rather than on Christ. Colossians 2:8
Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? 2 Corinthians 6:14

We have certainly struggled with this over the years. Some days it feels daunting--like we are up against the world. How much easier would life be if we just were to conform?
But, I am reminded that, in fact, we are up against the ways of the world, and that we must surround ourselves with godly influence.

or sit in the company of mockers,
but whose delight is in the law of the LORD,

live under God's authority while remaining in submission to the law of the land. At times we are forced to choose between the two, but if we'll seek the Lord's guidance before marching defiantly forward, He may open an alternative approach for us.
Although we don't know all that God could do in our lives if we'd radically commit ourselves to Him, the thought of missing out on His plans should be enough to motivate us to obey. You don't want to arrive in heaven and discover you forfeited blessings because you weren't fully devoted to Him.

May He Be Used to Further the Kingdom
Last week my husband came across a job posting for an assistant professor position at a Christian university. When I opened his email and viewed the posting, I was so emotional and was brought to tears. It just felt so right. It was at that moment that I realized something so true. I realized that working in a job where our LORD is honored and recognized is a must. In my husband's current setting, God is opposed.
"Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters." Matthew 12:30
There is no grey area in God's word--it is black and white.
I remember all too well, when teaching in public school, the feeling I had when we would come across information that clearly opposed our creator, our LORD. While I went over the information in a very neutral way, I was still participating in allowing our young minds to be filled with contradiction, worldly views, and opposition to our LORD. I am so thankful to no longer be in that setting where I had no choice but to be lukewarm during my work day.
"I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm--neither hot nor cold--I am about to spit you out of my mouth." Revelation 3:15-16
While I loved teaching and completely respect the profession, I have an entirely different perspective of the man-made institution of public education. I see clearly now how Satan is so crafty in his ways--how he is able to reach our impressionable and vulnerable children by the millions in this setting, and day after day fill them with contradiction, opposition, and doubt. It is crystal clear.
I know that this may rub people the wrong way, but I am not writing to please people. I serve God, not man, and I am writing to encourage and inspire Christians to see and hear truth. "Whoever belongs to God hears what God says." John 8:47
I have been on both sides, and it is incredibly liberating to now be teaching with God in the center. He is our focus and fills our every discussion. It is so freeing and peaceful. There is no opposition or contradiction, and there is certainly no doubt.
I am praying for that same liberation and peace for my husband. May he experience the joy that comes from serving our LORD openly and freely! May his talents and love of our LORD be used to further the kingdom of God each and every day.

Out With The Processed
Out with the processed and in with the healthy! In our continuing effort to eat healthy and honor God with our bodies, we are avoiding as much processed and packaged food as possible. For those of you who have little ones, you know that can be challenging--especially if they are used to "snacks." My kids have eaten so many GoldFish and Wheat Thins over the years, but no more… Now I make homemade sourdough crackers that are delicious. My oldest likes them when I add cinnamon and honey on top after pulling them out of the oven. Personally, I love them with rosemary and basil seasoning sprinkled on the top before baking. The rest of the family enjoys them according to the recipe (although the online recipe calls for too much salt).

More Butter, Please!
I love my Butter Bell!! Thanks to a dear friend, I have this crock sitting on my kitchen counter 24/7--no refrigeration needed. When we switched over from "Factory Fats" to real butter, my husband was a little frustrated because the butter was not spreadable straight out of the fridge. Now, we have this beauty providing soft spreadable butter 24/7.

Yesterday, during my daily bible study time with William and Evan, I came across Psalm 138:8 in my NLT Study Bible: The LORD will work out his plans for my life--for your faithful love, O LORD, endures forever. Don't abandon me, for you made me.

For the past four months, we have been buying non-homogenized whole milk in order to be eating healthier--getting back to eating traditional and non-processed foods. This is one of my biggest reasons. I don’t know about you, but I hate what’s become of rural America. A few decades ago, people still raised their own food on small farms. Now our small farms have almost been completely wiped out by corporate America. Now instead of small farms with organic vegetables and cows grazing on pasture, we have Wal-Marts full of processed crap.
Buy raw milk from a small farm and you are making a difference, folks!
If you leave a gallon of pasteurized milk on the counter overnight, what happens to it? It goes bad! But if you leave a gallon of raw milk out, you can do all kinds of things with it. You can separate the cream. You can make butter, buttermilk, and whey. You can make yogurt. You can make cheese. You can add kefir or filmjolk culture and make all kinds of fermented treats.
I love that I sometimes find a sippy cup of raw milk my daughter left in the car the next day — and I don’t have to waste it — I can just kefir it!
The first time I tasted real raw milk cheese in Paris, I realized there really is a difference in taste. I’ve always been fond of milk but now I LOVE milk. I’m totally crazy about it.

Rest--He Knows What Is Best
Two Sundays ago, after we got home from church, my husband gathered the boys and headed out front to wash the cars. While they were doing that, I grew frustrated and felt restless. I kept thinking about how I just wanted to sit and relax and hang out as a family. I felt guilty though. I felt like I needed to be working on some chore, too, since they were laboring out front.
Over the years we have generally done all our chores, as a family, on Saturdays--these chores include cleaning, yard work, and grocery shopping. We have a pretty efficient routine--we make a list, and as each person finishes one of the chores, it gets crossed off the list. Up until the end of May, both of us worked full time, and we wanted the boys to partake in the chores, so this routine worked. Now, even though I am at home, we still seem to get the majority of our chores done on Saturdays.
Sundays, however, have been set aside for our "day of rest"--a day where we can worship at church and mentally and physically wind down at home from our day-to-day work and busyness. My husband and I agreed to this as we knew that God makes it clear in His word.
By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. Genesis 2:2
There are six days when you may work, but the seventh day is a day of sabbath rest, a day of sacred assembly. You are not to do any work; wherever you live, it is a sabbath to the LORD. Leviticus 23:3
The fourth of the Ten Commandments in Exodus 20 states:
"Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns. For in the six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.
So, after about 90 minutes of keeping myself busy while they finished washing the cars, they finally came inside. My oldest son was especially grumpy--Sundays are his one day he does not have sports, school work or chores. It is his day to rest and boy does he need it.
I was feeling grumpy, too, so I spoke privately to my husband and explained my frustration. While he understood and was sympathetic, he explained that he struggled to sit still and just wanted to get stuff done. I knew what he meant; he has always been a list maker and a get it done kind of guy. It is a great quality. But, I also know that Satan tempts us in all kinds of ways, even ways that don't seem evil.
So, I pointed out to my husband that perhaps Satan was tempting him to be busy rather than relax and recuperate. He is overworked right now and needs downtime. It was like a lightbulb went on for him. And, just as I said it, it was so clear to me, too.
When we are not well rested, we are vulnerable and opening the door to temptation. When we make ourselves busy, we miss out on what truly matters and can lose our focus. We miss out on being still…
"Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth."
Psalm 46:10

Are They Prepared?
I have been tossing and turning for hours …so, here I am at 1 a.m.
There are just so many amazing things happening in our life right now--so much to share that I feel like my head is going to pop if I don't write! Thank God for this blog! Tonight I am so led to share what I experienced at church on Sunday even though I have another unpublished post that just needs a few final touches. I pray that every word I write glorifies Him, preaches His word, and inspires you.
So, I was scheduled to teach in the two year old room at church. It was not my usual Sunday, but another mom needed to switch as she was not available this weekend. I was more than happy to help, and what a blessing it was. . .
When I walked in, there was a young lady volunteering as my youth helper. She is a senior at a local public high school and was working on her volunteer hours for National Honor Society. For the next hour we had the most amazing conversation, and I was truly blessed by our time together. It was eye-opening for me as a parent.
As we were waiting for our two year olds to start trickling in, we introduced ourselves and she asked what I did. I shared that I had been a public school teacher but had felt led to homeschool our boys and become the keeper of our home. Basically I shared the condensed version of our journey.
No children showed up. . . and we continued talking.
After sharing how concerned I was, as a parent, that my children were being taught information as fact, that contradicted our beliefs as Christians, she shared some interesting things. She shared how she, too, struggled with the contradiction. At home and at church she was being taught biblical truths that clearly stood in disagreement with what she was learning at school. She pointed out that her parents taught her that she was to always respect her teachers and learn what they were teaching her. Sunday school teachers were teaching her one thing, and her school teachers were teaching another. She wanted a way for it all to work together. . .but, you see, it doesn't. You can't take a creator out of a creation or a designer out of a design. When you do, you are denying God. . .
We are putting our children in a situation where they must temporarily deny what they have been taught as truth. How soon will it take for them to start to doubt their parents' or the church's credibility?
Spending time with this young lady--our undivided hour--made it so clear how crafty Satan is. We are putting our children in this situation when they are most impressionable. We are allowing their ears to start to itch.
For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. 2 Timothy 4:3-4
Still, no children showed up. . .the first time, in the four years I have volunteered, that that has ever happened.
She continued to share with me that it is not easy being a Christian in school and that she often feels the pressure of scoffing. She even went on to explain how, in 8th grade, she had to write a persuasive essay on a controversial topic. The one she felt strongest about, from a list provided by the teacher, was abortion. She took a stand against it. But, she said it was so hard to write without including faith. She wanted to have a sound argument that would appeal to everyone, not just believers. . .
But, how do you argue with an opinion that does not regard human life as one of God's individual and purposeful creations? When a person does not believe that God created each and every one of us in our mother's womb, human life does not have the same value.
For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. Psalm 139:13-14
While she held her own in the presentation of her persuasive essay, and certainly ministered in a way she felt she could within the setting, she still was a recipient of scoffing. And, to this day, four years later, she still hears the scoffing whenever the topic is brought up.
First of all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. 2 Peter 3:3
As I close this post, and try to go get some sleep, I hopefully leave you with one thought that was made very clear to me on Sunday while I talked with a beautiful young lady. Our ministry as parents is more important today than ever. Our children are entering into battle each and every day whether you realize it or not. They are being tempted by worldly thinking and desires, they are being scoffed if they dare share their belief, and they are feeling and internalizing contradiction. Are they prepared?

Finally Family First
Yesterday, I had to make a tough decision--one that I was incredibly emotional about, and one that, in the past, I would have never considered doing. Today, I realize how huge that decision was in my spiritual growth. It truly marked the end my old self.
After agonizing for weeks about this decision, yet still committing and acting on my old decision-making ways, yesterday I stopped and listened. I listened to the holy spirit and obeyed. I emailed three beautiful women canceling my commitment to attend a women's church retreat. . .
Yesterday marked a day I will not soon forget. It marked the day that I stopped, listened, and finally put my family first in all aspects of my life. Today, I am overflowing with joy and revelation.
After agonizing for weeks about this decision, yet still committing and acting on my old decision-making ways, yesterday I stopped and listened. I listened to the holy spirit and obeyed. I emailed three beautiful women canceling my commitment to attend a women's church retreat. . .
I am sorry to be writing this email, but I have had it on my heart for some time causing me anxiety. I know I am the one who first brought up the retreat, so I feel like I might be letting you all down. But, I realize that my heart is not in the retreat right now. I feel that my spiritual growth is happening right here at home. My priorities have changed drastically.
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Luke 12:34
I pray that none of you feel this as a rejection, but rather that you see is at part of my growth. Leaving my family, even for a few days, at this point, does not feel right. Right now I need to simply be surrounded by them so that I can continue to be focused on my greatest mission…my family.
In the past I have put my marriage and children on the back burner and focused more on friendships. I realize that I needed my friends to fill in the gap because my priorities were misguided and based on worldly priorities. I am so sorry for leading you down that road, too. I need to cleanse myself so that I am not double-minded, and with that, draw nearer to God.
Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Be miserable and mourn and weep; let your laughter be turned into mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves in the presence of the Lord, and He will exalt you. James 4:7-10
That is not to say that I do not want friendships or that I don't want to be there for my dear friends. I do and I will. If any of you need me, I am just a phone call away. Please know that!!
At this point, the thought of returning to the way I was, where my focus was not entirely on my home, gives me great anxiety. My focus is becoming the woman God wants me to be. And, because it is so new, I need to remain where my heart is so that it will continue to be my treasure.
Older women likewise are to be reverent in their behavior, not malicious gossips nor enslaved to much wine, teaching what is good, so that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, to be sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be dishonored. Titus 2:3-5
